Established in 1992, Skyray Instrument Inc specializes in the development, manufacture, sales and support of analytical instruments. Skyray products range from XRF, ICP, AAS, GC, LC to EDS. Their main application is focused on environmental protection and natural resources exploration, such as, electric and electronic (RoHS), jewelries and ornaments (precious metals, plating thickness), toy safety (EN71-3), building materials (cement, glass, ceramic), metallurgy (steel, non-ferrous metals), petroleum (trace elements S, Pb, etc), chemical engineering, mining, commodity inspection, quality control, and human body trace elements testing. Skyray products command a good market both at home and abroad, which enjoy popularity in more than 50 counties and regions. Up to now Skyray has won three World’s No.1 titles: No. 1 in Sales Amount, No. 1 in Product Categories and No. 1 in Key Patented Technologies. RoHS Software Installation & Uninstall RoHS Software Installation Step1: Insert RoHS installation CD into CD drive of the computer, and open folders RoHS, you will see the icon, That is the software installer named “Setup.exe”. Step 2: Double click software installer Setup.exe and you will see following interfaces in turn. Please do as shown in the figures below. Nest nest nest install finish RoHS Software Uninstall Click Start button at the bottom left corner on the desktop and follow the operations as shown in figures below. ↓ control panel Add or Remove Programs RoHs Remove RoHS3 Software Data Input & Backup Step 1: Click Start→ All Programs→ RoHS in turn and right click software shortcut icon in the menu on the right side of RoHS, select Properties in the dialog box appeared. Step 2: A dialog box appears as follows and select Find Target. Step 3: You will see all the files under the installation directory as follows: Step 4: Find two folders Data and Configure, the former one is used to store spectra and the latter to store information related to working curves. When you import data, please replace current two folders with Data and Configure from the CD. And if you want to backup data, copy the two folders to a safe location RoHS Software Operation Procedure RoHS (Version: 12.21) The operation interface of RoHS12.21 is very friendly, intuitionistic and easy to operate. Software operation interface: Menu bar Tool bar Status bar Program bar Spectrum area Report bar Section 1 Software introduction 1. Menu bar The main menu items are Parameter Setting, Spectrum, Work Curve, Total Analysis Report, Qualitative analysis, Performance test, Camera, Language and Version. 1-1. Parameter Setting 1) Test Time: The measuring time is set according to the materials of sample. The test time for metal samples: 200~300s The test time for plastic samples: 100~200s The test time for soldering tin samples: 150~300s The test time for magnesium and aluminum samples: 200~300s 2) Amplification: The item reflects current working conditions of the instrument after initialization. The value is about 60 for Coarse Adjustment, and 120 for Fine Adjustment. We do not need to make adjustment. 3) Initialization: The instrument must be initialized before you run RoHS Tester. This action must be finished before you can execute subsequent operations. 4) Collimator: Please select the right collimator. For this software, the collimator will be selected automatically 5) Password: skyray. 1-2. Spectrum 1) Spectrum quick save path: You can use this item to set the path where you save sample spectra.Select Program Files directory: click New, input new folder named New Folder and click OK. Note: The path can only be set under C:\Program Files\skyray instrument inc. 2)Reference spectrum: The operation can change the saved sample spectrum into reference spectrum. The reference spectrum will be applied to the sample being scanned and show whether two spectra are identical. Select a blank line and click New, and a dialogue box appears as below: For example, when plastic is tested, you can select standard sample Ec680 for reference spectrum . And choose X Axis synchronization and Y Axis synchronization.As shown above, reference spectrum appears in red and it is convenient for operators to check whether working conditions are correct. 4) Calculate Intensity: This item will be described in detail during instrument calibration. Generally, please do not use the item, or else the working curve will be led to unexpected results. 1-3. Work Curve Remark: Set up Work Curve and Element Area Setting will be described in detail during instrument calibration. 1) Select Work Curve: (as shown in figure below) We should notice the check boxes Cr, Cl in Plastic and Polyethylene. 1-4. Total Analysis Report 1) Report Info Setting: (as shown in figure below) If Save Path needs to be modified, we can click Save Path. The page will appear as follows: The default path is C: \Program Files\ skyray instrument inc \ rohs \ Report. 2) Total Analysis Report Save: The analytical reports of samples can be saved for printing as required after spectrum scanning. 3) Total Analysis Report Print: Clicking this item can print the report information of the sample after the printer has been installed correctly. 1-5. Language There are there options Chinese, English and Local Language. 1-6. Version The version of current RoHS software is 2007.12.21 2. Tool bar The tool bar is used to control the start and stop of testing. 3. Status bar 4. Program bar The figure below shows five working conditions under which the instrument test samples , and working conditions are called working curves. Whether we select working curves to test samples or open sample spectra, we must select correct working curves. 5. Spectrum area In RoHS3 software the silver peak channel is established at 1105, and the peaks of other elements at corresponding locations. So the samples of a kind have similar spectra (the spectrum of soldering tin is shown below). 6. Report bar The report bar displays the testing results. Section 2 Operating Procedure 1.Check the power cord and data cable is correct before you start the instrument. 2. Start the instrument, and then run the computer and software. The instrument will adjust collimators and filters automatically. 3.The instrument should be preheated after you start it every day and 30 minutes for preheat time may acquire better results. 4. Set measurement time and spectrum path. 5.Initialization: Input pure silver sample. Click Initialization, and the hint window appears “Initialization successful” if initialization is finished successfully. 6.Select suitable working conditions according to sample types and choose the right curve,and then the collimator will be selected automatically .Input correct sample name: 7. Save the results and export the information to Excel, or press Total Analysis Report Print. Section 3 Report Printing If you only want to print the detailed report of a spectrum, you can click Total Analysis Report Print directly. And you can click Export to Excel to save all the sample information at the same time. Note: You can set the standards yourself according to your requirements on this page (as shown below). Instrument Installation Instrument Installation: ①、 Connect the power cable to the socket. ②、 Connect the computer and instrument with parallel port cable or USB cable. 2. Start, preheat and device check ①、 Turn on main power switch of instrument, then start the computer and go into Windows operation system automatically. ②、 Open RoHS software. ③、 Check the camera of instrument is OK. ④、 Put silver sample into sample chamber and set measuring time to 100s. ⑤、 Click Start button and observe the shape of sample spectrum. If the shape is OK, preheating ends when measuring time is finished. Section 2 Procedure for RoHS Calibration 1 Initialization of instrument Put the silver sample into sample chamber, Select Initialization in Parameter Setting menu in RoHS software, the instrument initializes automatically and set silver peak spectrum at 1105 channel. 2 Input administrator password and enter administrator mode. Select Password in Parameter Setting menu, enter “skyray” and enter administrator mode. 3 Set high voltage and current values for selected working curve Right click the selected working curve and input high voltage and current values of X-ray tube in the dialog box popped up. Different working curves need different tube currents and voltages as shown in table below:Table 2.Generally, software design has been set and no adjustment is needed with the exception of special conditions. 4. Set working curve and set up new working curve. Select corresponding working curve in the left part of the window. Select Set up Work Curve in Work Curve menu as shown in the figure below. We take the working curve of steel for example.Click New in the new window, input the name of working curve, click OK button and click Close button to exit. The names of working curves shall meet following requirements: Table 1. Note: The names of working curves are required to be identical, or errors will be reported in the running of software. 5. Test standard sample spectrum (Scanning spectrum) 5-1. Set Spectrum quick save path before testing; Select Spectrum quick save path in Spectrum menu; Click folder Program Files in new dialog box, click folder Data, and click OK to exit as displayed in the figure below. 5-2. Use collimator corresponding to working curve, make sure the working curve selected is identical with standard sample, then you can put the samples into sample chamber in turn and the spectra will be saved in selected path automatically. Please refer to following spectrum scanning rules: Table 3 29 standard sample spectra in total 6. Set up the borders of elements for each working condition Confirm the locations and scopes of Cr、Hg、Pb、 Br、Cd elements according to the locations of elements in spectra. The method to confirm the locations and scopes of elements: 6-1. Choose La peak of Pb in Cr/Cd/Pb/Hg in Steel as research object and choose Lb peak of Pb in Cr/Cd/Pb/Hg in Steel. 6-2. Choose sample spectrum of high content element as the object to confirm the border of the element.The rules to select samples for setting element area are as below: 6-3. Set up the border. Click Work CurveElement Area Setting; And you will see the box to set up borders;When setting up the borders of elements, you must notice following items: A. The borders must be at the corners on both sides of the peaks (as shown in the figure below in red), and the shapes of peaks need to be symmetric. B.If the shapes of peaks are asymmetric as displayed in the figure below in red, you can confirm the borders of irregular parts according to regular parts of peak shapes. C. The peak area shall be as big as possible, and a certain distance is needed between adjacent elements. D. When element boundaries have been determined, you can view other spectra under the same testing conditions to check if the boundaries are reasonable. E. The boundaries are the same for Hg, Cr and Cd (with the exception of Pb) in CrCdPbHg in Steel and CrCdPbHg in Brass, Zinc. F. The widths are the same for areas of As and Pb in Polyethylene. 7. Calculate intensity of standard sample and use it to build working curve You can calculate the intensity after the 6 steps above and use the intensity to build working curve. Method 1: Select working curve, open sample spectrum according to spectrum scanning rules in Table 3 and click the sample spectrum; Click Calculate Intensity; Click Join Work Curve. Method 2: Select Work Curve, click Set up Work Curve and the following figure appears. Click Open saved spectrum, select the sample spectra used for calculation in turn while pressing” Ctrl” key and open these spectra to build the working curve. ( as following picture) 8. Edit the contents and intensities, and display the working curve. When all sample spectra are used for calculation, we need to edit the contents. Select Set up Work Curve in Work Curve menu, select Data tab and the dialog box appears as follows: Enter the contents of standard samples and click Save button. (Our company will attach element contents table of standard samples) Note: The rules to edit intensities are as below: 1. The Pb intensities are doubled, and the content keeps constant in CrCdPbHg in Steel. 2. The Cd intensities are doubled and the content keeps constant in CrCdPbHg in Steel. Select Work Curve column, click Element column at the bottom left corner, and click Graphic tab. Then you can observe the linearity of working curve of element and judge incipiently whether the calibration is OK. 9. Follow above steps to calibrate other working curves. Section 3 Test standard samples again and judge whether the working curve calibrated is OK. Section 4 Backup the two folders Data and Configure under the path of C:\Program Files\skyray instrument inc\RoHS\. Until now, all the RoHS calibration work of the instrument has been finished. Operating Procedure for Establishing Work Curve Run the software and enter administrator password ”skyray”. 1. Cr, Cl in Plastic 1-1. Set the boundaries of Cr element. Select working conditions in Cr, Cl in Plastic and open the spectrum Ec680cr. 1-2. Open other spectra such as Ec681cr, 0#cr, pvc-hcr, pvc-bcr, pvc-lcr in turn and check both boundaries of Cr. 1-3. Select spectra used to calculate intensities as shown below. In WorkCurveCr curve: 0#cr, Ec680cr, Ec681cr; In PVC-Cr curve: pvc-hcr, pvc-bcr, pvc-lcr. 1-4. Enter Cr content. (See Sample Content List) Note: The content of Cl is 0. 1-5. Open Graphic and check if spectra are OK. 2. CrCdPbHg in Steel 2-1. Set the boundaries of Cr, Cd and Pb elements. 2-1-1. Open spectrum a1 and set the boundaries of Cr. 2-1-2. Open spectrum zn05 and set the boundaries of Cd. 2-1-3. Open cu-pb(56500) and set the boundaries of Pb La peak. 2-2. Open other spectra such as a3, a6, zn03, zn04, cu-pb(13500), cu-pb(29000) and cu14 in turn, and check both boundaries of Cr, Cd and Pb. 2-3. Select spectra used to calculate intensities. Select a1, a3, a6, zn03, zn04, zn05, cu-pb(56500), cu-pb(29000), cu-pb(13500) and cu14 to calculate intensities. 2-4. Enter the contents of Cr, Cd and Pb. (Note: The content of Hg is 0.) Select a1, a3 and a6 for Cr. Select zn03, zn04 and zn05 for Cd. Select cu-pb(56500), cu-pb(29000), cu-pb(13500) and cu14 for Pb. 2-5. Open Graphic and check if spectra are OK. 3. CrCdPbHg in Brass, Zinc 3-1. Set the boundaries of Cr, Cd and Pb elements. 3-1-1. Set the boundaries of Cr, which are the same as the ones of Cr in CrCdPbHg in Steel. 3-1-2. Set the boundaries of Cd, which are the same as the ones of Cd in CrCdPbHg in Steel. 3-1-3. Open cu-pb(56500) and set the boundaries of Pb Lb peak. 3-2. Open other spectra such as a3, a6, zn03, zn04, cu-pb(13500), cu-pb(29000) and cu14 in turn, and check both boundaries of Cr, Cd and Pb. 3-3. Select spectra needed to calculate intensities. Select a1, a3, a6, zn03, zn04, zn05, cu-pb(56500), cu-pb(29000), cu-pb(13500) and cu14 to calculate intensities. 3-4. Enter the contents of Cr, Cd and Pb. (Note: The content of Hg is 0.) Select a1, a3 and a6 for Cr. Select zn03, zn04 and zn05 for Cd. Select cu-pb(56500), cu-pb(29000), cu-pb(13500) and cu14 for Pb. 3-5. Open Graphic and check if spectra are OK. 4. CrCdPbHg in Solder 4-1. Set the boundaries of Pb Lb peak. Select working conditions in CrCdPbHg in Solder and open the spectrum sn02. 4-2. Open other spectra such as sn01 and check both boundaries of Pb. 4-3. Select spectra needed to calculate intensities. Select sn01 and sn02 to calculate intensities. 4-4. Enter the contents of Cr, Cd, Pb and Hg. (Note: The contents of Cr, Cd and Hg are 0.) 4-5. Open Graphic and check if spectra are OK. 5. Polyethylene 5-1. Set the boundaries of As, Cd, Pb, Hg and Br elements. Open Ec680 and set the boundaries of As, Cd, Pb Lb peak, Hg and Br elements. 5-2. Open other spectra such as Ec681, 0#, pvc-h, pvc-b and pvc-l in turn and check both boundaries of the elements. 5-3. Select spectra to calculate intensities as shown below. In WorkCurve curve: 0#, Ec680, Ec681; In PVC curve: pvc-h, pvc-b, pvc-l. 5-4. Enter the contents of Cr, Cd, Pb, Hg and Br in WorkCurve and PVC curves. 5-5. Open Graphic and check if spectra are OK. 6. CrCdPbHg in Magnalium 6-1. Set the boundaries of Cr, Cd, Pb and Hg elements. 6-1-1. Open spectrum 11013 and set the boundaries of Cr. 6-1-2. Open spectrum 11011 and set the boundaries of Pb La peak. 6-1-3. Open spectrum 602 and set the boundaries of Cd. 6-2. Open other spectra such as 11011, 11013, 604 and 606 in turn, and check if the boundaries of elements are reasonable. 6-3. Select spectra used to calculate intensities. Select 11011, 11013, 602, 604 and 606 to calculate intensities. 6-4. Enter the contents of Cr, Cd, Pb and Hg. Select 11011 and 11013 for Cr. Select 602, 604 and 606 for Cd.
